Buy & Sell Used Firearms in VA

Thinking about selling your used firearms?  Send us an email or stop by with you firearm for us to take a look at.  Please be sure your firearm is unloaded, the magazine is not inserted, and the firearm is in an appropriate carrying case before entering into our facility.

Sell

We buy all types of firearms that are in good condition (subject to inspection).  This option provides the quickest way for you to complete the transaction.  Once we inspect the firearm, we will present you with an offer.  Once agreed upon, you will be provided a bill of sale for your records and an instant check payment will be issued.

Trade

Just like selling your firearm to us, however, instead of receiving a check you receive a credit to the firearm you are purchasing at the time of trade-in.  Once we inspect the firearm, we will present you with an offer.  Once agreed upon, you will be provided a bill of sale for your records and credit will be applied to you new purchase.  Trade-in credits can only be applied to the purchase of a new firearm.

Consign

Prefer to sell your firearm on your own but want to use our store to showcase it.  We can certainly assist you with selling your firearm at a price that you are comfortable with.   This option provides the most benefit to you as the seller as far as selling price but you will have to wait until your gun has been sold.  Our consignment fees are a flat 15% on the consignment sales price.  However, if you decided to reclaim your firearm before it has been sold, you are required to pay a 7% fee.  NOVA Armory reserves the right to discontinue any consignment agreement.  Consignments are done on a case-by-case basis.

Frequently Asked Questions About Used Guns

When will I get paid?

You will be paid immediately if we decide to purchase your used firearm. You can send us an email about your gun so we can let you know in advance if we’re interested, or visit us in person. After inspection, we will present you an offer should we decide to buy your used gun. If you accept, you will be given a bill of sale and payment.

How do you issue payment?

All payments are issued either as an instant check or as a store credit, in the case of trade-ins.

How do you determine the value of a used gun?

Our appraisers have years of experience in determining the value of used firearms. First and foremost, we will look at the condition of the gun. Naturally, a gun that’s in near-mint condition will be worth more than one that requires repairs. Next, we assess the age—in some cases, an older gun may be more valuable, while in others, it could be worth less. Finally, we look at what the same type of firearm in the same condition is being sold for, along with the market demand. We only purchase a used gun when we have a reasonable expectation that we will be able to sell it to someone else.

Can I sell a collection of used firearms?

Of course. If you have a collection of firearms that you’d like to sell, it’s best if you email or call us first to let us know the makes, models, condition, and other important details. We can then determine if we’re interested and set up an appointment for an in-person appraisal.

Is there anything I need to bring to sell a used firearm?

You will need to bring a state ID or driver’s license, along with your firearm. Your firearm should be unloaded, in an appropriate carrying case, and the magazine should not be inserted.

What types of used firearms do you buy?

We buy and sell all types of firearms, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns, along with their accessories. View our Shop page to get an idea of what our selection looks like.

Do I need to pass a background check to buy a used gun?

Yes, in Virginia, used gun buyers need to pass a background check before they are allowed to make a purchase.

How can I trade in a used gun?

If you’d like to trade-in your gun, as opposed to selling it outright, the process is similar to selling. The main difference is that instead of paying you with an instant check, we will provide you with store credit to use towards the firearm you’d like to purchase. You will pay any difference in cost.
